The director of Arrival, Blade Runner 2049 and Blade Runner 2049 envisioned his adaptation of Frank Herbert's sci-fi novel as a two part saga. The first movie, opening October 22, begins with the title Dune Part One. This is just the beginning. When io9 met up with other journalists to discuss Atreides, Arrakis and other topics, we were forced to ask the same question that everyone will be asking after seeing the film: How quickly can we get Part 2 in our eyes?

Villeneuve stated that he would agree with Villeneuve's statement and added that he would be able to move quickly. It is possible to complete a movie this large quickly. It is still necessary to create sets and costumes. This takes months. Villeneuve said that Herbert's story could not be split in half without having a clear idea of the continuation. So much of the work in terms of story has already been done. He said that if you are going to make a movie in two parts, then you need to know what you will do in the next part. The movie has been designed so that it contains a lot of elements that are ready But if the enthusiasm is there and the movie gets greenlit, I will tell you that I am ready to shoot 2022.

Villeneuve believes there is no rushfilm life forever, so he intends to take his time with the sequel. He said that he had enough time to edit the first film. The second part would be the most enjoyable. That would be my priority. Q uality will take priority.

We won't reveal the ending of Dune, as it is still weeks away. It's not surprising that the first film focuses heavily on the introduction of Paul Atreides (Timothe Chalamet), which includes planets like Arrakis and villains such as the Harkonnen. Also, the movie introduces spice, the most valuable substance in all of the galaxy. Villeneuve stated that the difficult task was to introduce...the viewers to this world. To the codes, cultures, different families, and different planets. Once this is complete, it will be an insane playground. It will be a place where I can go crazy and create. He said that Dune Part One was my most exciting film, but Dune Part Two is getting him even more excited.

Want to be more excited? The director claims he is focused on Dune Part One and hopefully Dune Part Two, but he would love for Herberts sequel Dune Messiah to follow. I will be honest. Villeneuve stated that I had in mind the adaptation of Dune and Dune Messiah. As a filmmaker and screenwriter, I understood how to make this happen. We decided to split the first book in two, so we now have three movies. These movies take a lot of time to create. To save my mental health, I chose to only dream about three movies. Because I love all of the novels, I'll just keep dreaming about them until I find my place.

He clarified that he is not dreaming about Dune Messiah at the moment. Instead, he said, "I am focusing on launching Dune Part One and hoping there will be another part. That's my main mission." That's all. It was the most difficult thing I have ever done. It was a two-year-and-a half long project that me and my team had been working on for. We were working twenty-four hours a days, seven days a semaine, dreaming about Dune Part One.

This brings us back to the first question. Villeneuve said that hell be ready to film in 2022 if Dune Part One is a success and Dune Part Two gets greenlit quickly. While the original film was two and a quarter years in production, Villeneuve says that this sequel is already in place. If all goes according to plan, Paul Atreides may be back in theaters by 2024. Dune Part One has so much greatness that it should take you just enough time to fully digest it.

Dune opens in theaters and on HBO Max October 22.
