According to a security researcher, they are already mass-producing the cables.
Play and Learn
You'll want to ensure that your USB cord doesn't track every word you type when you purchase one or get one at a booth at an event.
An OMG cable is now available thanks to a pseudonymous cybersecurity researcher, MG. The cable can record and transmit every keystroke that you make while it's plugged in, and can even be used to hack into other computers.
Some people claimed that Type C cables are safe because there is not enough space. It was obvious that I had to prove them wrong. :) MG told Motherboard.
Kicking Tires
MG has begun mass-producing the OMG cable, and selling it through the hacking shop Hak5 ostensibly to security research purposes. The cable conceals a radio, a web server and small processors, as described in the product listing.

Joseph Cox, a Motherboard reporter used the OMG cable, specifically a USB C to Lightning cable, to connect his keyboard and Mac computer. Demo video of a phone using the cables interface captures every word he types.
Motherboard was told by MG that a hacker could access the interface using any web browser, provided they connected to the WiFi hotspot. This seems to be a very simple process considering the amount of information it could expose. Motherboard's request for comment was ignored by Apple, the company that developed lightning cables.
