Segway's robot mower uses GPS to stay on your lawn

Segway's Navimow is entering the robotic mower market. This model is unique because it doesn't require a boundary wire. Navimow uses GPS and other sensors instead to keep within your lawn's perimeter.
Segway claims that the Exact Fusion Locating System, which can keep Navimow's location accurate to within two centimeters of its true position, is called Exact Fusion Locating System. Segway claims that even if the GPS signal drops, the device's array sensors and data will continue to work. An app allows you to tell Navimow which part of your garden to mow and where it should be. Segway claims Navimow uses an algorithm that determines a path for mowing so it doesn’t have to follow a straight line.

Segway claims Navimow is relatively quiet at 54 dB. The mower has offset blades that trim corners and edges, and the mower cuts the grass gradually from above until you reach the desired height (between 3 and 6 centimeters). Segway claims that the mower is capable of handling 45 degrees inclines, and has an IPX6 rating for water resistance.

Safety features are also available. Segway claims Navimow can detect obstacles and avoid them. Its blades will also stop spinning if children or pets get too close. The device will return to its charging station if it detects rain. However, you can turn off rain sensors and still use Navimow outside. Navimow will resume cutting when the battery is low.

It can be time-consuming to install a perimeter wire. Also, because it is usually buried beneath grass, it can cause damage to a garden. Navimow may be a better option for your lawn than other robotic mowers. Originally, iRobot had planned to create a mower equipped with wireless boundary beacons. However, the company put it on hold in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Segway will release four models of its mower. The Navimow H500E can be used on lawns up to 5,400 square foot. It is priced at 1,199, or approximately $1,425. The batteries in the other models are larger to support larger lawns and include 4G support, GPS anti-theft and GPS support. Prices start at 2,499, which is approximately $2,970. Segway has not yet announced details about a US launch.
