Woman stabbed while working at Chase Bank on Near North Side has died, medical examiner’s office says

According to the Cook County medical examrs, a 24-year-old woman was stabbed in her neck while she worked at Chase Bank on the Near North Side. She later died from her injuries.
According to the medical examiners, Jessica Vilaythong was the woman identified. She is from Chicago's Mayfair neighborhood. At 5:52 p.m. on Thursday, she was declared dead. An autopsy is currently being performed to determine the cause and manner of her death.

Officials said that the stabbing took place at Chase Bank, 600 N. Dearborn St. around 11:15 AM Wednesday.

According to a Chicago Fire Department source, she was not behind the counter but on the public side.

After a brief conversation, police said that the woman was stabbed in her left side neck. The man was taken into police custody for questioning. A police spokesperson Thursday confirmed that charges were being filed against him.

Police said that the woman was taken initially to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where she was later listed as in critical condition.

According to a source familiar with the situation, the stabbing caused the temporary closure of this location and other nearby locations for the remainder Wednesday.
