CNBC reported that Texas Governor Greg Abbott implied to CNBC, or at the very least strongly implied, that Elon Musk, CEO of SpaceX and Tesla, had privately supported the state's new abortion law.
This law effectively bans abortion in the state and has been criticized by many for being an overreach, a contradiction to legal precedent and an active attack on individual freedoms.
Musk seems to have little interest in the subject of women's reproductive rights.
He wrote that he believes government should not impose its will on the people and should, instead, strive to maximize their collective happiness in response to the CNBC interview. However, I prefer to avoid politics.

Musk's short statement is difficult to understand. Musk is arguing that repealing Abbott's ban on abortion would increase cumulative happiness. Or is he just trying to keep his close relationship with Texas' political leaders?
Perhaps the most probable interpretation is that his tweet was deliberately worded to mean almost nothing.
Musk chose to ignore the debate and instead of getting involved in it. Musk could have done the least and condemned the government's overreach, which he has been complaining about since he moved to Texas last year.
He is a man who has voiced strong opinions about artificial intelligence, the importance of personal wealth, and even the Free Britney movement earlier in the year. He also supports the right of the singers to make their own decisions.

Musk is not a very vocal advocate for social policies. Musk's view that government regulations and bureaucracy restrict freedom does not seem to apply.
Maybe he is only against government intervention when it is inconvenient for his business interests.
Musk opposed locking down measures to protect American workers in 2020 during an unprecedented pandemic. Musk has remained silent this year as a woman's right to choose is at risk.
It is also a good policy to have effective family planning resources. Access to safe and legal abortion is crucial to the health and well-being of a population. Musk, a numbers-driven leader almost certainly knows this.

This is a shocking double standard from a man who desires to make humanity interplanetary. Musk would support an abortion ban in Mars' city, where unplanned pregnancies could threaten a well-balanced artificial ecosystem.
Musk may have given up on humanity on Earth. Musk's inability to speak up certainly suggests that.
