Live-Action Rick and Morty: Christopher Lloyd, Jaeden Martell

It is easy to dismiss Rick and Morty's work as a nihilistic, silly riff on the 80s time travel classic Back to the Future. This would be ignoring the effort and thought that went into the series. They have created a thoughtful reflection on free will and depression as well as finding one's place in the multiverse. Fair enough, Rick and Morty are a huge riff on Back to the Future and the show doesn't deny that.

Rick and Morty's love for Robert Zemeckis has been obvious even though it has become clearer over the five seasons that they are trying to tell different stories. Fans have long wanted a crossover between the animated series of the film and the sci-fi movie, but the two have become so distant thematically that it doesn't seem like something their respective production companies would want to do. It's Friday, and Adult Swims 20th Anniversary is approaching. Rick and Mortys creative team just released the next best thing.

Although the new live-action Rick & Morty clip was posted to Adult Swims' account today, it is very short and stars Christopher Lloyd as Rick Sanchez. Jaeden Martell plays Morty Smith in an exemplary scene. The clip is short and doesn't have much to do. However, Adult Swims tweeted that the C-132" reality designation was a reference the Oni Press Rick & Morty comic. The Rick and Morty from the C-132 are very similar to their C-137 counterparts, except for some details such as Morty C-132 having no son and Rick C-132 not believing in time travel.

Adult Swim could easily imagine Rick and Morty experimenting with dimension-hopping stories. Although we didn't hear back from the network at the time of publication, io9 reached to them for comment. We will update you if there is any word.
