How Android 12 lets you customize your phone’s color palette

Android 12 has a new feature that automatically matches your phone's color scheme to your wallpaper. You may be able to upgrade to Android 12 if you are interested in styling and colors.
It worked well on my Pixel 3 running Android 12 beta. After I downloaded the Google sample wallpapers and activated the themed icons feature (which allows your icons to match your wallpaper style), I was able to see a new background color on the search box at the bottom, Quick Tiles (the buttons that appear when you swipe down from top), as well as other elements.

The themed icons feature changed some of my icons to black against a background. I wasn't impressed. Although I prefer the multi-colored icons, it is nice to have this option.

You want to give it a try? It's easy.

Press long and hard on an empty area of your screen until the pop-up menu appears.

Select Wallpaper & style.

Choose a wallpaper.

Select an image by tapping on one of the Wallpaper categories. To select one of your photos, tap the button at the top called My photos.

After you have selected your image, you will be shown a preview of how it will appear on your lock screen and home screen. You can toggle between them using the buttons below the preview. Tap the checkmark in the lower right corner if you are satisfied.

You will be able to choose whether you want the wallpaper for your home screen or your lock screen. And youre done! With your new wallpaper, you will be back at your home page.

You can toggle between the dark and themed themes by going back to Wallpaper & Style. This is how the Mandalorian wallpaper looks with both the normal app icons as well as the themed icons.

I also tried the new colour palette feature using one of my photos as wallpaper. It created a green lawn with some purple flowers. It worked great there too. All the quick tiles and themed icons were assigned a pale-green color, as well as the lock screen numerals.

Depending on the wallpaper image, you can choose a different color combination.

Select Wallpaper colors from the Wallpaper & Style page and select one of the combinations. If you are looking for something more basic, you can tap Basic colors.

These style combinations won't impact your phone's performance or efficiency, but the idea of being able to change the look of your phone to suit your tastes or mood is quite appealing. It may change the way you see your Android phone if you have Android 12.
