Eve has released an update for its latest Eve Thermo version that adds Thread support for the HomeKit-enabled smart thermostat valve (via HomeKitNews).
This update fulfills a promise the German company made last year to provide Thread support for several products. It follows the inclusion of the Eve Energy Smart Plug (fourth generation), Eve Aqua (2nd generation), Eve Weather (second generation) and Eve Door & Window (3rd generation).
To give you an overview, Thread is a low latency, low power mesh-like network that smart devices can use. The Thread standard is not dependent on a hub or router, unlike Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. The Thread standard is a smart device that extends the network by communicating with other Thread-enabled devices and thereby boosts the signal between them.
Apple's HomePod mini, the Apple TV 4K, and the new Apple TV 4K are Thread border routers. By adding Thread-supported devices to the home, users typically get better connectivity than Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. They also have a wider control range and can schedule remotely.
