RISE will return to Hong Kong in 2022 – TechCrunch

RISE, Asia's most important tech conference, will return to Hong Kong in March 2022 for an in-person event. Web Summit announced today that RISE will be returning in Hong Kong for at least five more years. Web Summit announced last year that RISE would be moving to Kuala Lumpur. However, the conference's return to Hong Kong will mean it won't be held in Malaysia's capital. However, a spokesperson for TechCrunch stated that they plan to host other events in the future.
RISE will be held at the AsiaWorldExpo, March 14-17, 2022.

Web Summit announced that RISE would be delayed to 2021 in November 2019, as large demonstrations of pro-democracy were taking place. It announced that the 2021 event would not take place and that RISE would be resumed in Kuala Lumpur by 2022.

A spokesperson for RISE stated in an email that the political situation in Hong Kong had not affected their decision to consider Kuala Lumpur a host city. Rise 2022 was originally planned to be held in Kuala Lumpur. This is not possible. We thank the MDEC for inviting us to host RISE in their beautiful city. RISE has had five successful years here since its inception in 2015. It was a natural choice to stay due to our long-standing relationship.

Paddy Cosgrove, co-founder and chief executive of Web Summits, stated that he was extremely grateful to the city for its support over the past five years. He also expressed excitement about his return visit in 2022.

Edward Yau, Hong Kong's secretary for economic development, made the announcement. He stated, "Im very excited that RISE (the world-renowned tech conference) has decided to return to Hong Kong. I plan to stay here for the next five years."
