Le Meridien resort opens in the Maldives

September 1 marked the opening of Le Meridien Maldives Resort and spa. This is the first property by the Marriott brand in the country.
Chiu Teng Enterprises from Singapore developed the resort. It is located in Thilamaafushi, in the southern part Lhaviyani Atoll. The property is accessible via a 35-minute boat ride from Mal.

The resort, which has 141 villas, is located on a 22-acre island that is surrounded by coral reefs and lagoons. There are three villas with one, two, and three bedrooms. The Explore Spa by Le Meridien is also available.

Rajeev Menon from Marriott International's Asia Pacific division stated in a statement that "We are thrilled and excited to introduce the iconic Le Meridien Brand to the Maldives," "This summer, Le Meridien Maldives Resort and Spa is the second Marriott International property to open in the Maldives."

The Ritz-Carlton Maldives opened its doors to the Fari Islands on June 1.

Six restaurants and bars are available at Le Meridien Maldives. Tabemasu, the restaurant's signature, has a teppanyaki counter as well as a private open air pavilion where guests can enjoy an "omakase" tasting menu. Riviera is the resort's adult-only bar. It borders an infinity pool on the oceanfront and has its own beach.

Waves Lifestyle Hub features a yoga pavilion and a fitness center, as well as the Waves Cafe, which is a creative arts studio that focuses on local contemporary art. It also has a retail shop.

The Le Meridien Family & Kids' Hub offers nature trails, folklore storytelling, and art classes. A marine program is available for children, which teaches about environmental stewardship and ocean ecology. A hydroponics farm can be toured by guests.
