Kimi Raikkonen, an Alfa Romeo employee, won the 2007 world title with Ferrari

Kimi Raikkonen, former world champion, has announced his retirement from Formula 1 at end of the season.

The 41-year old Finn won the 2007 championship with Ferrari and now races for Alfa Romeo.

"This is it. This will be my final season in Formula One. "This is a decision that I made last winter," he stated on Instagram external-link

"Formula 1 may be over for me, but I have so much more to live and experience."

Raikkonen started his career in 2001. He has won 341 Formula 1 Grand Prix - more than any other driver.

He has won 21 races, and he has been on the podium over 100 times.
