Although the resort is not yet accepting reservations it appears that the new Alila Maldives will open in the latter part of 2021.
Alila Maldives nearing completion
We learned at the beginning of 2020 that Alila planned to open a Maldivian property. The Alila Villas Maldives were listed on the Hyatt development website. It was expected that they would open in October 2020. The opening was delayed, as is often the case with new properties, especially during coronavirus.

It seems that it is not as delayed as we initially thought. The Hyatt website for the Alila Kothaifaru Maldives has been launched. It is expected to open in the latter part of 2021. The hotel's owner has provided photos of the property that look more like real photographs. It seems like the company is focusing on the final touches and not just hiring and training staff.
We hope that the hotel will soon accept reservations. It sounds like there should be an opening within the next few months. Here are some photos of the property.

The Alila Villas Maldives will consist of 80 villas, with 36 being overwater. The hotel will be located in north Male, Raa Atoll. It will be easily accessible by a 45-minute seaplane ride.
Alila brand comes full circle in Maldives
The Alila Maldives will be the return of the Alila brand.
2009 saw the opening of the Alila Maldives Hadahaa (at that time, the Alila brand did not have anything to do with Hyatt).
Hyatt took over management of the property in 2011. The former Alila was renamed Park Hyatt Maldives Hadahaa.
In 2018, Hyatt also acquired Two Roads Hospitality which manages Alila properties.
There will be an Alila property once more in the Maldives. However, it will now be managed by Hyatt
Alila is a luxury brand that is primarily nature-focused and is similar to Hyatt's. It is comparable to Park Hyatt in quality, but there are some differences.
Funny thing is, we have seen pictures of the new Alila in Maldives that look very similar to the Park Hyatt.

This is great news for World of Hyatt members
Although no pricing details (in points or cash) have been revealed yet, this property is one that many World of Hyatt members are likely to be excited about. This property will be a Category 7, World of Hyatt property. That means that a night of free redemption will cost you 30,000 points.
Redeeming points with World of Hyatt is a great way to save money, especially if you are a Globalist member. Hyatt is known for offering elite perks to Alila properties. Here's hoping this is not a problem.
It would be great if the property offered standard suites that are eligible for upgrade awards. This is in contrast to the Park Hyatt Maldives which is not included in the program.
Bottom line
The Alila Kothaifaru Maldives will open in the latter part of 2021. We expect to see reservations start soon. I cannot wait to find out more about the property, including the room types and the amenities. Hyatt is a wonderful company that takes care of loyal customers, so I'm sure this property will be a treat.
