Atlanta Hawks, Clint Capela agree to two-year, $46 million extension, sources say

Sources told ESPN that Clint Capela, Atlanta Hawks center, has signed a $46 million, two-year extension to his contract, which will tie him to the team through the 2024-25 season.
Capela still had two years on his current contract and is now expected to make $82million over the next four seasons.

Before the Oct. 18 deadline, Travis Schlenk, Hawks general manger, completed the new agreement with Wasserman.

Capela, 27 years old, played a significant role in the Hawks' run into the Eastern Conference finals. Capela, 27, averaged 15.2 points per game and was league-leading in rebounding at 14.3 rebounds during the regular season. He also played well in the postseason series wins over New York City and Philadelphia.

According to ESPN's Stats and Info, he played a significant role in the Hawks' defense. He finished with a 4.98 defensive real positive plus-minus. In that category, he was only behind Rudy Gobert from Utah, who is the league's defensive player-of-the-year.

Capela was traded to the Hawks by Houston in 2020. He had previously played six NBA seasons.

Capela joins All-Star forward John Collins and guard Trae Young as the third Atlanta starter to sign an extension to their contract this summer.
