Google Reportedly Developing Own Arm-Based Processors for Chromebooks After Being Inspired by Apple Silicon

Nikkei Asia reports that Google has begun developing Arm-based processors to power future Chromebook laptops, tablets and smartphones after unveiling the Pixel 6 smartphones featuring a custom Arm-based Google Tensor chipset chip.

According to the report, Google will launch its own processors for Chromebooks around 2023. Chromebooks can be described as laptops, tablets and detachable devices running Google's Chrome OS operating systems. They are made by brands like Google, Samsung and Dell and are available in many markets.

According to the report, Google was inspired by Apple's success with developing its own chips for iPhones and Macs after the introduction of the Apple M1 chip. Apple's first Macs equipped with silicon chips were launched in November 2020. Apple had previously stated that the transition from Intel-based processors to its Mac line would take approximately two years.

Apple silicon has been updated to the base model iMac. It was updated in April with the M1 chip and a new, colorful design. Multiple reports have indicated that Apple plans to release a redesigned 14-inch MacBook Pro model and a 16-inch MacBook Pro model with a faster M1 chip later in the year.
