This is a classic tale in the tech industry: a company creates a tool to solve s own problem and then realizes that the tool is worth more than the company. Linearity experienced something similar. Vladimir Danila (17 years old) was the founder of Linearity. He created Vectornator in 2017 to simplify vector design. It is now used by Apple and Disney as well as Wacom, Microsoft, and Microsoft. Vectornator is used by Disney to create artwork in Disneyland hotels.
The vector-focused platform, led by EQT Ventures and 468 Capital, has raised a $20m funding round. It has been joined by Angels such as Bradley Horowitz, VP Product, Google, Jonathan Rochelle, Co-Founder Google Docs and Google Slides, Google Drive), Charles Songhurst, (Ex. Corporate Strategy, Microsoft), and Lutz Finger, Group Product Manager, Google.
According to the company, the funding will be used for Vectornator's mobile-first product. It will add AI-powered automation and collaboration features. The company also plans to expand its business in Europe and the USA.
Vladimir Danila is the CEO and founder of Linearity. He said that when I started my journey into design at age 10, I found it intimidating and difficult to use the tools. To solve this problem, I wanted to develop my own set of tools. Vectors are more relevant than pixels and superior in all aspects except photography. Vectornator is about simplicity, customer experience, and not making the software too complicated. I am thrilled to work alongside Ted and his team to gain market knowledge and grow our platform.
Ted Persson (Partner at EQT Ventures) commented: There were two sides to me joining forces with Linearity. Vladimir is a clear-cut founder and has created an exceptional product. Vladimir and his team are proving that design tools can be the most difficult tools to build.
Since Canva's success, valued at $15 billion, investors have been interested in designing tools.
