Philips Hue Lights Getting Deep Spotify Integration

The popular Philips Hue smart lighting system will integrate with Spotify streaming music, allowing Hue users the ability to link their lights to Spotify playlists.

Philips Hue will analyze each song's metadata in real-time to adjust Hue lights to match the music. The algorithm also considers factors such as loudness, segment, pitch, and many other factors.

The Sync tab within the Philips Hue App allows users to personalize their Spotify integration experience. You can start and stop the sync, change the brightness and intensity, or choose a palette to alter the colors.

Spotify integration is free, but you will need a Hue Bridge or color-capable Hue bulbs like the White or Color Ambiance Smart Bulbs. This feature is available through the Philips Hue app. It does not require a microphone for music to react, so there is no background noise. The phone can also be used to perform other tasks.

Signify, Philips Hue's parent company, says the integration can be used with any Spotify-compatible device. This includes smartphones, speakers, computers and computers. Simply link a Spotify and Philips Hue accounts in the Hue app and the lights will activate whenever you play a Spotify track.

As an early access program, Philips Hue App 4, users will be able to start seeing the integration with Spotify and Philips Hue starting September 1.

Users who are using the latest version of the app may tap on "What's New" and select "Early Access" to get it. Spotify integration will become a permanent feature of the Philips Hue App after October 2021.
