Alien 3: William Gibson Script Gets Novel Adaptation

Alien 3 is not without its problems. This is something even the most passionate fans of Alien 3 have to admit. It went through many story, script, director and editing changes. The result was what many consider the worst of the four Alien films. William Gibson, the legendary Neuromancer author, was one of many writers who tried the script. However, his work was only published as an audiobook and a Dark Horse comic. A novelization of the story is in the works, but not the one you would expect.

Alien 3: The unproduced screenplay of William Gibson by Pat Cadigan (his friend and Hugo Award-winning novelist) is based on a script Gibson wrote for the movie. Although details are scarcewell, almost non-existent, Cadigan confirmed that the book was new during an interview with Syfy.

The Dark Horse graphic novel is available for anyone who wants to learn more about Bill and the process of writing the scripts. It's based on a different version than the novelization. Its eye-opening!

The book will be available next month and we won't know the exact difference, but it is likely that the two scripts share some of the same DNA. Corporal Hicks (Michael Biehn), and Newt (Danielle Edmund) are likely to be among those who survive, while also playing important roles in the story. The android Bishop (Lance Henrikson) is another possibility. I can't give you a coherent outline of Gibsons Alien 3 plot. You can check Wikipedia for more details. Renny Harlin was the next to arrive aboard Alien 3. He summarized the story as Space commies hijacking alien eggsbig problem on Mallworld, and then tossed it out. Harlin was eventually forced to leave.

Gibson's script is described by Cardigan as an original story. It is true to the films but not rehashed. It will be interesting to see what an alien 3 might have looked like. You can see it for yourself when Alien 3 : The Unproduced Screenplay of William Gibson is released on September 7.
