Arsenal has signed Japanese defender Takehiro Tomiyasu, a Bologna native. This follows the loan of right-back Hector Bellerin to Spanish side Real Betis.

Reiss Nelson, a winger for the Gunners, has been allowed to move on a season-long loan to Feyenoord.

Tomiyasu (22 years old), can play either right-back or centre-back and has been signed for 16m.

Last season, he made 31 Serie A appearances. However, he has only appeared once for Bologna.

Manager Mikel Arteta stated: "Takehiro has a strong defender and good experience at both the international and Serie A levels."

"He is a versatile defensive defender with high technical abilities, great defensive qualities and calm on the ball. He will be an integral part of our team."

Calum Chambers has started as right-back for the north London club's three league matches this season. All of them ended in defeat.

Bellerin, who suffered a serious knee injury in 2019, has not been a regular starter for Gunners but made 25 Premier League appearances.

The 26-year old Spain international, who was signed in 2011 from Barcelona's academy, has not featured for the club in this campaign. He still has two years on his current contract.

21-year-old Winger Nelson has played 48 games for Arsenal and scored four goals.

The England Under-21 international spent 2018-19 in Germany on a loan at Hoffenheim.

Nelson said, "I look forward to playing at this beautiful stadium." "Feyenoord has been a fantastic club and a great challenge. I hope to get the fans cheering as soon as possible."

Arsenal has been investing heavily in this summer's recruitment, with purchases such as Ben White (centre-back), Martin Odegaard (30m), and Aaron Ramsdale (goalie) for initial 24m.

Arsenal: Maitland-Niles stays

Ainsley Maitland -Niles will remain at Arsenal, following clear-the air talks with Mikel Arteta.

The England international believed he would join Everton on loan, before the transfer window closed.

Arsenal did not approve the move, prompting MaitlandNiles to post on social media, stating that he wanted to play.

Arteta was informed that the 24-year old spoke to Arteta on Tuesday about his frustrations.

The talks were successful and Maitland -Niles will continue at Arsenal.

He made two appearances this season for the club, appearing as a substitute in Saturday’s 5-0 loss at Manchester City.
