Chelsea has signed Saul Niguez, Atletico Madrid's midfielder, and Spain's Saul Niguez, on loan with the option to purchase

Atletico's La Liga win was won by Atletico last season. He made 33 appearances.

Chelsea was skeptical that they would be able to sign Saul. However, Chelsea managed to reach a deal after paying a loan fee and an option to make it permanent.

Sevilla had earlier confirmed that they rejected Chelsea's "unsatisfactory offer" for France defender Jules Kounde.

Saul, who had previously been linked to Manchester United, stated that "I am very excited about starting this new challenge with Chelsea."

Blues fans, I am now one of you and I cannot wait to put on the shirt, train and meet all of you. We will see you soon!

Saul played for Atletico in 447 matches and scored 53 goals.

Pat Nevin, a former Chelsea winger, said on BBC Radio 5 Live: “It’s one of those odd ones because Chelsea have players in every position but Saul Niguez – but you just think: ‘Where?’

"I don't get it. That one surprised me a lot."

Sevilla remained firm on the Kounde fee and insisted that he would not be allowed into the Blues for less then his 80m euro release clause.

Monchi, the sporting director of Sevilla, stated in a press conference that a bid for the 22-year old was rejected.

After Kurt Zouma's departure to West Ham, the Blues were heavily involved in Kounde's summer. They are hopeful that a deal can be struck.

Ethan Ampadu (20 year old Chelsea defender) has been loaned to Serie A side Venezia for a season.

The Wales international has also signed a new agreement with the Blues. He will be staying at Stamford Bridge through 2024.
