Twitter for iOS Beta Lays Groundwork for Bitcoin Tips

Twitter's most recent beta update adds support to provide tips for content creators in Bitcoin using the "Tipjar" feature Twitter introduced earlier this season. Although Bitcoin is not yet available for beta users to choose as a tip option, the code in the beta indicates that Twitter is working on it.

Twitter initially allowed users to add links to Bandcamp, Cash App and Patreon to their Twitter profiles. But, soon there will be a Bitcoin option. After Jack Dorsey, CEO of Twitter, told investors in July that Bitcoin was important and would soon be added to the Tip Jar, the addition of a Bitcoin tipping option is a result.

According to the Twitter beta, users will be guided through a Bitcoin tutorial. This tutorial will include details about the Bitcoin Lightning Network as well as custodial and noncustodial Bitcoin wallets.

Twitter lists Strike, Blue Wallet, and Wallet of Satoshi among the custodial wallets, while Muun, Breez and Phoenix are examples of non-custodial wallets. Twitter informs users that Strike accounts are required. The text reads, "We use Strike for Bitcoin Lightning invoices. You'll need to link your account to accept Bitcoin tips."

Twitter appears to be also working on "Cheer," Haha," “Hmm,” "Like," "Like," "Sad," and other reactions to tweets. Users will be able activate them using a press-and-hold gesture on the current like button.

The Twitter beta does not support Bitcoin tips. It is only available to beta users. The new reactions are still not available.
