Michail Antonio: West Ham striker set to make debut for Jamaica

Michail Antonio, West Ham's striker, will make his debut for Jamaica in the forthcoming World Cup qualifiers.

He was named in the Reggae Boyz team to face Panama in Kingston, Sunday.

Covid travel restrictions may prevent him from flying to Mexico or Costa Rica this month for the other qualifiers.

Antonio made himself only available to Jamaica this year. He previously sat on England's bench.

Antonio, a London-born player in the Premier League, is currently leading with four goals in three games. He was an unutilized substitute for Sam Allardyce, who was in charge of England's last game in 2016.

Gareth Southgate called him up again to the Three Lions squad the next year, but he was injured and withdrew.

The striker is one of 12 British-based players, including Rangers' Kemar roofe, Aston Villas' Leon Bailey, and Derby County's Ravel Morson. They are not available to play against Panama as Costa Rica and Mexico are both on the UK government’s red list.

Premier League, Scottish Premiership, and English Football League clubs stated that they won't release their players to play in games in red-list countries due to the quarantine protocols.

However, Queens Park Rangers' Dillon Barnes, and Swindon Town’s Anthony Grant are both available to play in all three games.
