FBI: Texas shooter possibly inspired by foreign terrorists

GARLAND (Texas) Investigators are investigating whether a Texas man was inspired to become a terrorist by killing a Lyft driver in a Dallas suburb. He then opened fire on a police station in another suburb, where he was fatally shot by officers.
Police claimed that Imran Ali Rasheed, a Lyft driver in Garland's home city, ordered the Lyft and then shot Isabella Lewis. Police chiefs in both cities stated that Rasheed started shooting in the lobby of the Plano police station before being shot by officers. The car she stole was later found outside Plano's police station.

Matthew DeSarno is the special agent in charge at the FBI's Dallas office. He said that although investigators believe Rasheed acted on his own, the 33-year old left a note indicating that he was inspired by a terrorist organization. The letter was not detailed and he declined to identify the group.

DeSarno stated that Rasheed was under a counterterrorism investigation between 2010 and 2013, which was closed when agents concluded Rasheed didn't pose a threat. He said that the agency's regional terrorist task force is currently investigating Lewis' death.

Authorities have confirmed that there is no connection between Lewis Rasheed and Lewis. It's also not known why he went the Plano Police Department. Ed Drain, the chief of police for the city, stated that we don't know why he went to Plano to search for police officers.

Drain stated that Rasheed succumbed to his injuries in a hospital on Sunday. Drain said that the Collin County District Attorney's Office is investigating Rasheed's shooting.
