As he joins Corinthians, Willian has apologized to Arsenal fans.

After Arsenal ended his contract Monday, the Brazil midfielder made a return to Brazil.

The 33-year old wrote that she had done everything in her career to be the best possible.

"Unfortunately, it didn't happen to me at Arsenal and that is a pity."

After leaving Chelsea in July 2020, Willian signed a three-year contract worth over 200,000 per week and arrived on a transfer for free.

The 70-year-old Brazil international hit back at critics, who felt that his move to Arsenal was motivated by "financial reasons".

"Unfortunately, things didn't go as we had all planned and hoped. I received a lot o criticism, especially from some press members [suggesting] I had come here to make money," said Willian, who scored one goal last season in Arsenal's 25 league appearances.

"I hope that they will understand the truth of what I did today."

"I hope it will teach people to not judge others and create bad environments in order to be important. Even though that's part the game, I do accept it."

Brazil capped the midfielder 70 times, but he had not played for the club this season. Mikel Arteta, Gunners boss, stated before Saturday's 5-0 loss at Manchester City that he didn't know why Willian's time with the club was not more successful.

Willian, who won five trophies during his seven-year stint at Chelsea, including two Premier League titles in the Premier League, returns home to join Corinthians. He began his career there before moving to Shakhtar Donetsk.
