Highlights of Alabama QB Bryce Young, the sophomore who takes over the reigns of the defending champion Crimson Tide. (1:04).
Bryce Young is ready to become the next great Alabama QB (1.04).
It was official Monday when top-ranked Alabama made Bryce Young their starting quarterback for Saturday’s match against No. 14 Miami
Young, a sophomore, was formerly a five-star prospect. He served as the backup for Mac Jones, who was picked by the New England Patriots during the first round this year of the NFL draft.
Young was a freshman and appeared in nine games, including Ohio State's national championship win. He completed 13 of 22 passes last season for 156 yards and one touchdown.
It became obvious that Jones' successor would be Young during the offseason. Nick Saban, Alabama's coach, often praised Young and assigned him to the first-team offense for the spring game.
Saban stated Monday that Bryance had done a good job. He's confident with the ball and is accurate."
Young spoke to the media at fall camp. This is unusual as Saban doesn't usually allow quarterbacks to speak publicly until they are named starters. Young stated that playing alongside Jones was a "huge experience."
Young will face Miami at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Atlanta. Young is one of the faces of new players' ability to make a profit from their names, images, and likeness.
Sources claim that Young had signed deals in excess of $800,000. Saban was amazed at Young's ability so quickly to sign deals worth nearly seven figures.
Preseason All-SEC tightend Jahleel Billingsley wasn't listed as the starter in the Week 1 depth charts. Billingsley and Major Tennison were listed alongside Cameron Latu as backup tight end.
Saban singled out Billingsley twice in this offseason because he didn't do everything he needed to practice.
Saban said that backup linebacker Quandarrius Roberts was suspended after he was arrested for driving under the influence over the weekend.
