Sources -- Rajon Rondo plans to rejoin Los Angeles Lakers on 1-year deal worth $2.6M

Sources told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski that Rajon Rondo will sign a $2.6 million, one-year deal with the Los Angeles Lakers after clearing waivers Monday.
Rondo, who signed a contract buyout agreement with the Memphis Grizzlies Saturday, will still receive his full $7.5million salary this season, between the buyout deal and his new deal the Lakers.

Wojnarowski sources said that he is expected to sign on Tuesday.

Rondo, 35, was traded by the LA Clippers this month to the Grizzlies as part of the Eric Bledsoe agreement.

The Lakers' two-time champion and four-time All-Star was a part of the title team in Orlando. He played for them for two seasons, from 2018 to 2020.

The 16-year-old veteran will be a depth player for the Lakers' point guard position. Russell Westbrook and LeBron James will assume the ballhandling duties in the starting lineup.

Rondo joins Dwight Howard and Trevor Ariza as the fifth ex-players to return to the Lakers fold this offseason.

Rondo is also joining an elite group of older All-Stars on Lakers' roster. Rondo, Howard, Carmelo Anthony and Howard were all All-Stars during 2012, the year before Anthony Davis joined the NBA.

Rondo averaged 5.4 and 4.4 points in 45 games last season with the Clippers, Atlanta Hawks, and shot a career-best 44% from 3.

After joining the league in 2006, he spent his first nine seasons with the Boston Celtics. Over his career, he has averaged 10.0 point, 8.1 assists, and 4.6 rebounding. This includes stops with the Dallas Mavericks (Sacramento Kings), Chicago Bulls (Chicago Bulls) and New Orleans Pelicans (Pelicans).
