House panel investigating Capitol riot plans to ask telecom firms to preserve Trump allies' phone records

Rioters and police clash as they try to gain entry into Capitol Building through the front doors. January 6, 2021.
The House Select Committee investigating the Capitol Invasion is planning to request that telecommunications companies preserve phone records of pro-Trump Republican legislators.

Multiple sources informed NBC News that the list to be submitted to telecom firms in Florida, Georgia, and Florida by Marjorie Taylor Greene is still being developed.

CNN first reported the list earlier Monday, citing sources who claimed that the targets were motivated by their connections to the "Stop the Steal” rally held outside the White House by former President Donald Trump on Jan. 6.

Other Republicans included in the list include Reps. Lauren Boebert from Colorado, Ohio's Jim Jordan and Andy Biggs, and Paul Gosar, of Arizona. North Carolina's Madison Cawthorn, Louie Gohmert, Georgia's Jody Hice, and Scott Perry, of Pennsylvania.

The Jan. 6 select Committee spokesperson declined to confirm the report.
