Ruben Dias: Manchester City defender signs contract extension until 2027

Ruben Dias was awarded a number of individual awards as well as the Premier League's Premier League Award.

Portugal's defender RubenDias has signed a new contract at Manchester City, which will run until 2027.

Portugal international Dias, 24 joined City in September 2020 from Benfica under a six-year contract for approximately 65m.

He was instrumental in helping City win the Carabao Cup and Premier League, and to reach the Champions League final for the first time.

Dias was named Premier League Player and Football Writers Association Men's Footballer-of-the Year last season.

Dias said, "Playing for City exceeded all my expectations" and was awarded the Champions League Defender of the Season for 2020-21. Dias has played 50 games for City.

"It was an incredible experience to be part of the team that accomplished so much last season. It made us all want more.

"Now, I want to do my part in making this season successful and helping others."

Pep Guardiola was also thanked by him for his development as a player, and for "keep pushing me forward to improve".

Txiki Begiristain, director of football, said: "Ruben is already proven to be such an important part of our team.

It tells you everything about him and his importance to the club. We wanted to recognize his contribution with this new contract.

He is everything you could want in a central defense defender, and more. He will be an important part of our drive for even greater success over the next few decades."
