One poem depicts a night shift worker in the NHS at the peak of the coronavirus epidemic as an astronaut, untethered from spacecraft and adrift. Another focuses on the difficulties of comforting a patient when the smile of comfort is hidden behind a mask.

Salisbury district hospital has created a collection of spoken words that captures the feelings of terror, sadness, isolation, frustration, and loneliness experienced by NHS staff and volunteers during the pandemic.

Wiltshire Hospital commissioned Martin Figura, a poet, to guide staff who were deeply affected by the pandemic and create an artistic record.

Dr. Kate Jenkins, a psychologist in the intensive care unit, stated that it was important to provide different options for patients to heal. She said that while reflecting on trauma events can help people move forward, people also want to reflect in other ways.

Jenkins, in addition to his work at the hospital was also a patient admitted with Covid. It was quite shocking to not be able see faces of others because of masks and being isolated from family and friends. It was frightening to be so vulnerable and isolated.
