Rep. Jim Jordan Suddenly Remembers At Least One Other Call With Trump On Jan. 6: Report

Rep. Jim Jordan (R. Ohio) suddenly recalls another call with Donald Trump. This was during the insurrectionists' rampage through the Capitol on January 6. Politico reported Sunday.
Some observers suggested that the Ohio congressman might be trying to make his case before the House Select Committee, which is investigating the Jan. 6 events. This includes looking into Trump's activities and GOP lawmakers. Just days ago, the committee announced that it would be seeking phone records and other communications in its investigation.

Jordan said he spoke with Trump by phone on Jan. 6, but was unsure of the details. He could not recall if he spoke to Trump before, during or after the Capitol Riot and he also couldn't recall what he said.

After? I spoke with Jordan that day. According to Jordan, he said that he believed it was after. Fox News also reported that he spoke to Trump by phone on Jan. 6, but changed the subject after being asked.

He now admits to Politico that he spoke to President Obama more than once. I don't remember the exact times.

Politico was told by a source that Rep. Matt Gaetz (R.Fla.), and Jordan phoned Trump during the Capitol attack. Politico reported that they pleaded with Trump for his supporters to stop, citing a source who declined to disclose how Trump responded.

Jordan said that Gaetz was not present in the call to Trump on that day.

Jordan later stated that he was certain that one of Trump's calls took place in the safe room, as we had been in that room for forever.

He refused to discuss the details, except to say that he, like everyone else in the situation, wanted the National Guard involved.

Politico was told by Gaetz's office that he wouldn't discuss phone calls with Trump.

Kevin McCarthy, the House Minority Leader (Republican from California), named five Republicans in June to the Jan.6 committee. Two of them, Rep. Jim Banks from Indiana and Jordan, were rejected by Nancy Pelosi (D.Calif.). They claimed they made false statements about what happened on Jan. 6 while taking concerns actions that made them less credible participants.

Both men voted to reverse the results of the presidential elections. It would have been awkward for Jordan to be called as witness by a member of the committee.

McCarthy pulled all five of his picks and Pelosi named Rep. Liz Cheney, R-Wyoming, and Rep. Adam Kinzinger, R-Ill. To serve on the investigation panel.
