Bill Belichick on Patriots' QB Battle: 'We Still Have a Lot of Decisions to Make'

After Sunday's 22-20 victory over the New York Giants, Bill Belichick, New England Patriots' head coach, remained neutral about his team's quarterback situation.

When asked by reporters about Week 1's starter, he said that "we still have a lot to decide."

New England chose Mac Jones in round one because they see him as the long-term solution under center. However, Cam Newton appears to have the inside track to the 2021 starting job.

Newton is the obvious choice because of his experience. The Patriots were able to see enough in Newton to sign another one-year contract. He threw for 2,657 yards with eight touchdowns, 10 interceptions and 10 touchdowns while running for 592 yards and 12 score.

Newton later admitted that he was affected by COVID-19 testing.

Jones has been a great leader of the offense, even though the 2015 MVP was not in his favor.

Former Alabama star was 10-of-14 for 156 yards with one touchdown on Sunday. He ended the preseason with 389 yards passing.

Michael Giardi, NFL Network's reporter, also reported that Newton had violated the NFL's COVID-19 safety and health protocols. This caused him to miss multiple practice.

Belichick and his assistants could still be considering all options or he may be trying to delay this until the Miami Dolphins open week.

This is a testament to Jones’ efforts that it could plausibly be in the air at any time.
