Nene Leakes says husband Gregg is “transitioning to the other side”

An Atlanta lounge host gets emotional as the former RHOA star shares that her husband of 24 years is moving to the other side.
She announced Saturday night to patrons at an Atlanta lounge that Nene Leakes, the husband of Housewives of Atlanta star Nene, is moving to the other side.

Gregg Leakes (67) was diagnosed in 2018 with stage 3 colon cancer. He has been in remission since then, and Leakes made the announcement that her husband's cancer had returned a few months ago.

The 11th season of Real Housewives of Atlanta showed viewers the struggles of the couple as they dealt with Gregg's cancer and tried to keep their marriage healthy.

Before Leakes opened up about her husband's health, she said that she hoped everyone was enjoying the lounge tonight. Please, I am asking everyone in this lounge. I didn't know that I would walk in here with this microphone and make this announcement, but I want you to hear this: I want peace. Please show your love to my son and me when you see us. My husband is moving to the other side. You don't know what you are dealing with right now.

They have been married for 24+ years and have two children together.

Gregg's sad news comes months after Leakes spoke out to Jasmine Brand during an Instagram live chat regarding his cancer return.

In an interview in June, she stated that he was in the hospital for a week. I'm sure hell be back in about a week. Because his cancer had returned, he needed to have surgery.

In 2019, the Real Housewives of Atlanta documented portions of Gregg's journey to remission. While both were experiencing insurmountable stress, the couples' emotional journey was full of tears, arguments and general concern about how to fix their relationship.

Leakes suggested that the couple get a second divorce while Greggs is being used to calm the tensions at home. They had already been divorced in 2011 and were remarried in 2013.

This is our business, so people shouldn't approach us saying, "You're rude because you don't want to say happy birthday." Leakes told audience members who called Leakes rude for not acknowledging a birthday under the crown.

Colorectal and colon cancer are more common in African Americans. They are 20% more likely than other people to develop it, and 40% more likely that they will die.

Blank Panther actor Chadwick Boseman died in 2020 after quietly fighting the disease for four years. This tragedy highlighted the need for African Americans and Black men to be screened for this deadly disease.

Please show us respect. Leakes said to the crowd, "Give us some love," My son is hurting right now, you can see it. We came in here to do business, but my husband is in serious danger.

Leakes shared a picture of the word broken via her Instagram late Sunday afternoon. Gregg's condition has not been updated.
