Netflix saves Manifest for a 20-episode final season

Manifest has been saved by Netflix. Deadline has reported that Netflix has just released the fourth and final season of NBC's drama about a crew who endure the longest layover in aviation history. Not one of those piddly Fines have three hours to wrap up the final seasons. The supernatural show will get a huge 20-episode run to wrap up all its various plot threads.

This move has been in the making for months, despite Netflix's apparent desire to get rid of its reputation for being the only place where dying or dying shows go for literal hospice care. The streamer promoted Manifest much better than its home network, putting it at the top of its homepage (a rare feat for a non-Netflix Original) and promoting its viewership figures as the kind of easy to consume potboiler that binge TV was designed to shove down peoples throats.

We can't help but chuckle at the show lore and the fact that Newswires writers on Saturday mornings have to find something to do. The announcement was made by Netflix on August 28th at 8:28 AM, in reference to the delayed Flight 828. Deadline reports that series stars Josh Dallas, Melissa Roxburgh and other cast members have already committed to returning for season 4.

This feels very 2015, and it feels strangely fitting for Manifest. It is a show about people adapting to being dragged back into the past. Even though Netflix had rejected the show in June, a fan campaign led by Jeff Rake and other stars kept the show's streaming ratings high for several months. And now, we have Manifested.
