'Mary Tyler Moore Show' & 'Lou Grant' Star Ed Asner Dead at 91

Ed Asner, one of the greatest actors to have ever done it, has passed away.
According to his reps, EA died Sunday in the company of his family. There are no other details regarding his death.

The family released a statement saying that their patriarch, loved one, had passed away peacefully. The sadness we feel cannot be expressed in words. You can kiss your dad goodbye by putting a kiss on his head. We love you."

Ed was a veteran actor. He started in showbiz in the 1950s and found success with "The Mary Tyler Moore Show". His role as Lou Grant, Mary's TV station boss, was his recurring role. For seven long years, he starred in 166 episodes.

Even though he won the show's spinoff, a show called "Lou Grant" was created. It lasted almost as long and Ed played the lead role for more than 100 episodes. He is the most decorated male actor in Primetime Emmys. Ed won five Emmys for his portrayal Lou Grant and two for roles on other TV shows.

"Lou Grant" was an Emmy-winning series that won 13 Emmys and Golden Globes. It was the third spinoff of 'TMTMS', and possibly the most successful.

He was also a regular on several TV series, including "The Bronx Zoo", "The Trials of Rosie O'Neil," and "Hearts Afire." His voice acting career is even more impressive, having taken off in the 1990s and beyond.

Ed is also well-known for his role as a director in "Roots", for which he was awarded an award.

Ed was as friendly and cheerful as ever when we last saw him in person. He happily signed autographs while being pushed into a chair. This is exactly the type of man he was.
