A Texas judge issued a temporary injunction stopping Republican Gov. Greg Abbott's order prohibiting mask mandates has been issued by a Texas judge. It affects 19 school districts within the state.
Friday's order by Travis County Judge Catherine Mauzys stated that the school districts that sought to block the ban had made sufficient evidence that Abbott's actions were illegal... violates Texas Constitution and would cause irreparable damage.
According to reports, Ken Paxton, Texas Attorney General, has already appealed against the decision.
Districts that sought to block Abbott's ban included the schools of Austin and Dallas, Fort Worth, El Paso, Fort Worth, Houston, and Fort Worth.
Mauzy stated in her ruling that the order is not binding on the school districts or community college districts. This order will prevent them from adopting a face-covering rule to stop the spread of the COVID-19 viruses. The virus threatens public schools in Texas and could cause school closures.
The all-Republican Texas Supreme Court temporarily blocked the mask mandate in San Antonio schools on Thursday.
In Texas, more students were tested for COVID-19 in the week that ended Aug. 22, 2014 than any other time in the last school year.
A judge in Florida ruled Friday that Republican Governor. Ron DeSantis abused his authority and issued an executive order prohibiting schools from imposing mask mandates.
Leon County Circuit Judge John Cooper agreed to parents who claimed in a lawsuit DeSantis order was unconstitutional. It cannot legally be enforced.
