Tottenham Hotspur 1-0 Watford: Son Heung-min winner maintains Spurs' 100% start

Last update on. From the section Premier League
Son Heung-min scored six goals against Watford in his 10 Premier League matches

Son Heung-min celebrated his 200th Premier League appearance by scoring the winning goal, as Tottenham continued their 100% season start against Watford.

This means Spurs will be top of the table going into September's international break while Watford are at 12th.

Nuno Espirito Santato becomes the second Tottenham manager to win three consecutive league games. Arthur Rowe was the last to do that feat in 1949.

They were forced to work hard by a Watford side that was well-respected. Son's free-kick inswinging through the goalkeeper Daniel Bachmann led to them conceding and they ended up in the bottom-right corner.

Harry Kane was quiet for his first top flight start for Tottenham this term, but Steven Bergwijn and Eric Dier all had opportunities for the hosts.

However, Xisco munoz's side presented plenty of attacking threat.

Juraj Kucka failed twice to capitalize on opportunities to score, and Emmanuel Dennis gave Spurs some unpleasant moments.

Solid Spurs ride the wave of positivity

Spurs came out of the tunnel feeling buoyant, Kane receiving a warm reception from home fans.

That positive energy was still radiating around the stadium, even though the 300th Premier League home victory was in the bag.

Although Watford will likely have different goals for the remainder of the season than Spurs, their victory and performance set them up for a difficult run of fixtures when Premier League resumes.

Nuno's side will next be taking on Arsenal, Chelsea, and London derbies.

Apart from keeping Kane, their main goal-scoring threat, they appear to have been more solid in defense since Nuno's arrival in the summer.

Spurs have yet to concede a league goal in this term. The way that Dier and Davinson were able to throw themselves in front efforts that looked destined to land in their net highlighted a new approach to defense.

Watford shows their worth

Watford seemed aggrieved that they went into the interval trailing Spurs after keeping them at bay for most of the first period. Even without Troy Deeney, they displayed plenty of attacking intent.

Nigerian forward Dennis was especially lively when he came in from the left to present Japhet Tanganga, his marker, and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, the covering. He had a few problems.

Ismaila Sarr was also a pace breaker on the opposite flank, with twice the Senegal international having the chance to open the scoring.

Kucka's goalbound attempt was also blocked by Dier, a Spurs defender during a fast start.

Spurs were able to find a way back in the game even after they won. However, Xisco will know that despite their great play, they only managed two goals.
