Texan Man Who Organized Anti-Mask Protests Dies of COVID

Caleb Wallace was an activist against mask requirements and other COVID-19 restrictions in central Texas. He died on Saturday after a long battle with the coronavirus. His wife confirmed this on Saturday. Caleb has passed away peacefully. Caleb will always live in our hearts, and minds, Jessica Wallace (Caleb's wife) wrote on their GoFundMe page. Jessica Wallace had posted a day earlier that Caleb wouldn't make it long. With another child on the way, the father of three quickly fell ill and was now unconscious and heavily sedated ever since August 8.

Wallace was well-known in his community as a strong opponent to COVID-19 restrictions. He was also the founder of San Angelo Freedom Defenders. This rally called for all those who felt the government was in control of their lives to participate in the Freedom rally. According to Brenda Gunter (San Angelo mayor), they believed that the coronavirus was a hoax. They also felt that the government was being too harsh with masks.

Wallace sent a letter to San Angelo Independent School District in April asking for an immediate end to all COVID-related policies. He questioned the effectiveness of masks for children, and claimed they were actually harmful. Your administration should consider the potential harmful effects of masking for children, given the low number of people who have been affected by this virus and the lack evidence to support it.

Wallace began to experience typical COVID-19 symptoms, including fever and cough, on July 26. He refused to be tested and refused to go to the hospital at first. Jessica Wallace, the San Angelo Standard-Times' reporter, said that he was so stubborn. Because he did not want to go to the doctor, he attempted to self-medicate using Vitamin C, Zinc Aspirin, an Inhaler, and Ivermectin tablets. A relative took him to an emergency room a few days later.

Jessica Wallace is eight months pregnant and said that she wore a mask. Her husband also respected her choice, even though he would sometimes tell her it was futile. She said that she would get her COVID-19 vaccine after her baby was born. She insisted that we are not anti-vaxxers and that all of her children have had their vaccines.
