California's massive wildfire has now reached a tourist attraction.
According to Trip Savvy, the Caldor Fire is rapidly approaching Lake Tahoe. It is already covered in smoke and ash at a time when California's vacation spot is at its peak.
According to Tahoe Fund, the tourist attraction attracts approximately 15 million people each year. The lake is busiest on weekends, when visitors reach up to 300,000.
The city of South Lake Tahoe has not been issued evacuation orders, but the fire department is closely watching the situation.
The City of South Lake City Tahoe Government shared the following on Facebook: "The City Manager has made a proclamation of emergency to allow us greater flexibility in our response the Caldor Fire incident." "The City of South Lake Tahoe remains outside the evacuation warning area and order areas."
FOREST MANAGEMENT IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN CLIMATE CHANGE IN CALIFORNIA'S WILDFIRES.
Caldor Fire broke out in Omo Ranch, California on August 14th and has now spread to more than 140,000 acres. According to California's Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, only 12% of this fire was contained as of August 27.
"The fire experienced short range spotting that aligned nighttime flow patterns, producing several new ignitions within control lines," CAL Fire reported. Passive crown fires were also common in the Northeastern and Eastern regions of the incident. Firefighters still face challenges due to steep terrain and critical fuel conditions.
According to the Associated Press, firefighters are planning to take a stand at Echo Summit if the fire continues to burn through Sierra Nevada forests.
