Kurt Zouma, a former captain of France U21, has won eight caps for senior France.

West Ham has signed Kurt Zouma, a France centre-back from Chelsea, on a four year deal worth 29.8m.

Zouma, 26 years old, won two Premier League titles and a Champions League during his seven-year tenure at Stamford Bridge.

He was a captain for France with eight caps and had loan spells at Saint-Etienne and Stoke City during his time at Chelsea.

Zouma said, "I'm very happy" and was proud.

"My conversation went very quickly with the manager. "I felt that he wanted me to join the team, especially since it was a very good team and had started the season well.

"With West Ham's great season last year, it gave the team a lot confidence to improve this coming year. I want to help them do that."

Zouma, a 19-year-old Saint-Etienne native, joined Chelsea in January 2014. He made 151 appearances for Chelsea in all competitions and scored 10 goals.

Although he played 36 games for Chelsea last season as a defender, he did not feature in the long-term plans Thomas Tuchel. He has been focusing on Jules Kounde, a 22-year-old France player, and Sevilla's defender.

After Saturday's draw with Crystal Palace, West Ham is at the top of Premier League with seven points from their three games.

Last season, Zouma won the Champions League along with Chelsea

David Moyes, Hammers boss, said that Kurt is a joy to West Ham United.

"He is a player that we have been following for some time and we have taken great care to make the transfer possible. He was always our first choice, and I am happy that he has become our player.

Zouma is expected to join France this week in their World Cup qualifiers against Ukraine, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Finland. He could make his West Ham debut at Southampton when the Premier League resumes after the international break.
