West Ham United 2-2 Crystal Palace: Conor Gallagher scores twice to secure point

Last update on.From section Premier League
Pablo Fornals scored two goals on the last day of last season. He has now scored four goals in his four Premier League matches.

Conor Gallagher scored Patrick Vieira's first goals at Crystal Palace. West Ham's winless start to the season was ended in a tense London derby.

After playing a quick one-two with forward Michail Anton, the Hammers looked set to win their third consecutive game.

Palace looked much better at half-time, and were levelled when Gallagher, a Chelsea loanee, scored the goal.

Antonio, in excellent form, thought he had won the title when he smashed past Vicente Guaita to score his fourth goal of this campaign and his 50th in Premier League.

Palace earned their second point this season thanks to Gallagher's smart turn and finish, after James McArthur's pass.

Joel Ward, Palace's defender, had to make a dramatic clearance from his line at 0-0 earlier in the match after Vladimir Coufal's goal-bound free kick almost led to an own goal.

Hammers lose two points

West Ham failed to play up to the high standards set by Moyes

West Ham is at the top of this table, level on Everton's points and with a superior goal difference heading into the international break.

However, the joyous celebrations that followed their first two wins of this season were not repeated as they allowed Palace to take the lead twice.

David Moyes' team has played with style and purpose in the first weeks of the new season. The West Ham boss would have accepted seven points from the three opening games before the new campaign began.

This felt like two points were dropped against a team who had not scored in 270 minutes under the new boss.

It could have been worse. Palace won the game strongly and Marc Guehi wasted a great chance in stoppage when he sent a header over the bar.

Moyes may have had reinforcements by the time West Ham face Southampton on 11 September.

Although his team scored 10 goals in 270 minutes of football (which is a lot), there are still areas for improvement. The Scot will be eager to do some business late before Tuesday's transfer deadline.

Encouragement signs for Vieira

West Ham 2-2 Crystal Palace - Vieira is'really satisfied with' the Palace character

Palace had not impressed Vieira going into the game. It looked disappointing when Fornals broke the tie six minutes before the half-time break.

However, their second half performance was their best under the new manager. He will be encouraged by the character of his team.

Palace confirmed the signing Watford's midfielder Will Hughes prior to kick-off. They are likely one of the busiest clubs at transfer deadline day, having released nine senior players last season.

Gallagher's arrival seems like a good business deal.

He was only 21 years old, but he displayed remarkable composure to overcome Christian Benteke's deep cross in his path.

His second win was even more impressive, with the England Under-21 international winning a beautiful turn and beating Lukasz Fabianski in a clinical final.

After the international break, Palace will face Tottenham and Liverpool. However, they will still take the positives out of this battling performance.
