Norwich City 1-2 Leicester City: Albrighton gives Foxes win

Last update on.
Marc Albrighton's goal was only his fourth in the league over the past three years.

Marc Albrighton's winner at Carrow Road gave Leicester City victory, while Norwich City was left without a point following Kenny McLean’s equaliser.

After Brandon Williams, a Manchester United defender on loan, made a mistake, the Canaries fell behind in the first half.

Although Teemu Pukki scored a penalty to level the match just before the break, Albrighton's shot which was deflected off Williams restored Leicester's lead.

McLean appeared to have equalised shortly after but Todd Cantwell was ruled outside to leave Norwich at the foot the Premier League.

Norwich celebrated their second equaliser, McLean's powerful header, but were denied their moment after a VAR-check revealed that Cantwell was offside against Leicester goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel.

Daniel Farke's side rallied in the final minutes and substitute Adam Idah shot a long-range goal wide.

The Canaries moved off the bottom of this table with a 5-0 defeat by Arsenal at Manchester City and Pukki's goal, which was Norwich's first league goal of the season.

VAR shatters Norwich hopes

Norwich City 1-2 Leicester City: Daniel Farke believes McLean equalizer should have stood

On a frustrating afternoon, VAR was both the positive and negative for Norwich.

They started slow and had to chase the game. Williams, who was on loan from Old Trafford, suffered a moment to forget in his first Premier League start.

The left-back for the 20-year-old lost possession in the area near his penalty box. Ricardo Pereira was able to move to the byline to feed Vardy who then swept it in from the spot.

The hosts showed improvement in the second half and were able to win after Pierre Lees-Melou's clumsy challenge by Sync was finally given as a penalty. Referee Robert Jones consulted his pitchside monitor.

For most of the second period, Farke's team was the stronger of the two sides. Milot Rashica impressed on the left. Albrighton's goal was met with spirited response. However, McLean's header at the corner's back net hit the back of the net. Jones then consulted VAR to rule out the possibility of an equaliser.

Foxes rebound

Brendan Rodgers will be happy with his team's response to West Ham's shaming 4-1 loss in their previous match, but he will also know that his side can do better.

The Foxes had to deal with Pereira's early departure, which could have added to their already extensive injury list.

Albrighton's goal was his side’s first shot at the second-half target and only his fourth league goal in his three years.

McLean's disallowed equaliser was followed up by pressure on Leicester, which saw Joshua Sargent miss opportunities and Idah miss them. However, the Foxes held on to eighth place.
