Manchester City's achievements in the area of Silva and Kompany have been recognized

Manchester City has unveiled statues by Vincent Kompany, David Silva and others on the east side Etihad Stadium.

These statues recognize the contributions of former players to City's rise from a low-ranking Premier League club to one of today's most successful clubs.

Andy Scott created the statues, and will create one for Sergio Aguero (the striker who left City this summer).

Silva said, "Being in City changed my life."

"I am proud of the work we did together, and it is very touching to see that it was recognized."

Silva, now at Real Sociedad, spent 10 years with City, playing 436 games and helping them win four league titles as well as two FA Cups, five League Cups, and two FA Cups.

Kompany served as City's club captain for eight years. He won four Premier League titles with City, two FA Cups, and four League Cups.

Kompany, now the manager of Anderlecht, said that he didn't expect to be recognized by such a great club.

"My wife is Manchester-born, and my children were born there. They go back to Manchester where they can see what their father achieved, which is something I cannot describe.

"And then, especially the pose. For me it means a lot."

These statues are made of thousands of galvanized steel welded parts and will be lit at night with blue-tinted lighting.
