Rivers stated after the win, "It's not the end that makes it amazing." "Tonight was special. "Tonight was special. I can see dad standing on the track, mom is in the stands, my brothers are looking at the ball and my brother is coaching.

Rivers was appointed the team's coach in 2020. The plan was for Rivers to assume control of the program when his playing days are over. Rivers was done with the Chargers after 16 seasons and the Indianapolis Colts after one.

Rivers will be following his father's footsteps and becoming a high school coach. His son, Philip Rivers, was a high school coach at Athens (Ala.), High School. He was an all-state quarterback before he went on to play for NC State. Philip Rivers stated that he would like to coach his sons in highschool one day. However, he left the possibility open for a return to the NFL earlier this month.

Rivers said that he has not completely ruled out the possibility of a late-season NFL return. He also noted that he is keeping fit in case such a scenario arises.
