A group founded by a Capitol riot defendant is prescribing an unproven COVID-19 treatment, ivermectin, through a telemedicine site for $90 a pop

Recently, the demand for the unproven COVID-19 treatment, ivermectin, has exploded.

FDA has not recommended ivermectin to COVID-19 because it hasn't reviewed any evidence supporting its use.

America's Frontline Doctors is being sued by Dr. Simone Gold for offering $90 telehealth consultations to help them prescribe unproven COVID-19 treatments, such as hydroxychloroquine and ivermectin.

The group's website has a page dedicated to COVID-19 medication. This page explains how you can get a prescription.

Click on the button below to contact a doctor. Complete the form and pay $90 "The physician will contact you usually within 2-7 days," says the page. You will then be able pay for the medication through Ravkoo Pharmacy. This is a digital pharmacy company.

This page will direct you to SpeakWithAnMD.com where you can book your consultation. After filling out this form, you will be asked to choose the COVID-19 treatment medication that interests you, ivermectin, or hydroxychloroquine. However, it states that what you are prescribed will depend upon your consultation with their doctor.

On Thursday night, the selection ivermectin message was: "Unfortunately, due to the national shortage Ivermectin at the moment, at the present time ivermectin cannot be treated." They also indicated that hydroxychloroquine was an alternative.

Both medications have not been approved for COVID-19 treatment, but they were promoted against the advice of public health officials. Ivermectin is an anti-parasitic medication that was commonly used to treat worms on horses and cows. It has recently become a popular online bogus treatment.

Last week, the Food and Drug Administration reported that it received reports from patients who had self-medicated with ivermectin meant for horses. They urged people to stop.

In some cases, ivermectin may also be prescribed to humans. This is how America's Frontline Doctors can write prescriptions for this drug. FDA stated that although research is ongoing into the potential use of ivermectin for COVID-19 treatment, it has not yet reviewed any data supporting its use. NBC News reported that ivermectin still has a lot support from anti-vax online communities. Some groups on Facebook that promote the drug have attracted tens to thousands of users.

On Thursday, the CDC issued an emergency warning about a rapid increase in prescriptions for ivermectin and reports of people getting sick after using ivermectin products that prevent or treat COVID-19. According to the agency, there were an increase in calls to poison control centers about overdoses.

America's Frontline Doctors was established last year by Dr. Simone Gold. She has downplayed COVID-19 and criticized the vaccine as well as spread falsehoods about it.

Gold was charged with violent entrance and being on restricted ground during the Capitol Riot on January 6. According to The Washington Post, she confirmed that she was inside the building but stated that it was not a riot.
