OnlyFans' Ban On Adult Content Cost Sex Workers Followers And Money. Now The Company Says It's Changed Its Mind.

OnlyFans has reversed its ban on sexually explicit content, despite huge backlash from subscribers and creators.
The company tweeted Wednesday morning that it had received assurances to support its diverse creator community, and suspended the October 1 policy change.

OnlyFans stated that creators will be notified via email of the reversed decision.

It is unclear if the temporary suspension of the policy changes is temporary. "The October 1, 2021 changes proposed by OnlyFans are no longer necessary due to assurances from banking partners that OnlyFans can support every genre of creators," OnlyFans stated in a statement to BuzzFeed News.

OnlyFans is a subscription platform that allows fans to follow independent creators and pay for their content. OnlyFans' success was due to the adult content. OnlyFans was the first online platform where sex workers could control and create their content, while also making money.

The company stated that it will ban sexually explicit content beginning October 1, and said that it was obliged to comply with requests from banking partners as well as payout providers.

"The change of policy, we had to choose the short answer was banks," Tim Stokely, CEO and founder, told the Financial Times Tuesday.

OnlyFans' sudden U-turn in this decision and the uncertainty that it has created has angered sex workers, who claim they have already seen a drop in their income and followers since the announcement by the company.

Addie, who performs as xaddiebabyx on the radio, said that she had "lost countless supporters, which is money [she] uses] to put food [on [her] table" since OnlyFans' announcement last Thursday."

She said, "They were so quick throw us to the curb when they were so quick to throw them to the curb when onlyFans has the enormous platform they have today because sex workers" "It was funny to read their post today. I thought we would all come back to them even though they had only suspended the policy change.

Omi, a creator of adult content, said that she had lost over 500 followers and $4,000 in revenue on the platform over the past week. BuzzFeed News was informed by Omi that OnlyFans had tweeted about the reversed situation before informing creators. Omi claimed that she hadn't heard from the platform hours after the company had tweeted.

Although she said that she doesn't trust OnlyFans to support sex workers due to how evasive and obstructive the company was about the ban, it has placed her in a difficult situation.

Omi stated, "The problem is that I have built a successful five-figure company and made more than half a million through this site. So it gives me major anxiety not being able to know what to do." They don't realize how hard we worked in building these fan bases, only to lose them over night.

Skylar Shark and other adult content creators have not been surprised by the behavior of OnlyFans over the past week, given how they were treated in the past.

Shark said that every penny made by the company revolved around porn, whether they like to admit it or otherwise. Shark said, "I find it hilarious watching them trying to pick up pieces from the vase they threw at each other."

Shark will use OnlyFans, and he hopes that OnlyFans does the right thing for sex workers.

They stated that it was difficult for a sex worker to trust every site they work at at the end of the working day.
