AUSTIN (Texas) -- Although the Texas Longhorns have finished training camp, coach Steve Sarkisian is still unsure of his starting quarterback.

Hudson Card and Casey Thompson have been sharing snaps equally with the first-team offense in preparation for the Sept. 4 season opener against No. Sarkisian stated Thursday that 23 Louisiana was covered.

He said, "I haven't named [a starter]". "I suppose there is nothing to be shared."

The biggest question about Texas going into Sarkisian’s debut season in Austin is the quarterback duo. Sarkisian was the offensive coordinator for Alabama's national champion last season.

Sam Ehlinger was the starting quarterback for the majority of the past four seasons, before he went to the NFL and instead of returning for another one.

Thompson may have been an obvious choice after he threw four touchdowns last season after Ehlinger was hurt in the Alamo Bowl. Card, a talented quarterback at nearby Lake Travis High School and a prolific source of major-college talent, is Card. Since spring practice, he has maintained the pressure and impressed his teammates with his arm.

Sarkisian stated that both players had difficulty in the first scrimmage at training camp, but performed much better in the second.

Sarkisian said he's not trying to keep secrets to hamper Louisiana-Lafayette's game planning for the opener.

He said, "All of it is not about a competitive edge." It's about doing the best for our football team.

Sarkisian stated that there is no consideration for the possibility that a player who was not chosen to start may choose to transfer.

Thompson thought about transferring after 2018, but decided to stay in Texas and sit behind Ehlinger for the next two seasons.

Sarkisian stated that he doesn't need to worry about a possible transfer. "I must make decisions that are in our best interests as a football organization and for our entire team."
