Twitter today announced that Spaces hosts will be able to now sell tickets to Ticketed Spaces. Applications for Ticketed Spaces were first open to users over 18 years old. They can host three Spaces within the last 30 days and must have at least 1000 followers.
A Twitter representative said that they are continuing to work closely alongside people who already host Spaces for Ticketed Spaces. Twitter did not disclose how many people it has rolled out this feature to, nor when users can expect a wider rollout. Anyone can purchase tickets to Spaces hosted at their location by anyone with iOS.
We want to make $$$. Spaces more interesting! Today, some hosts will be able to create ticketed spaces! We are currently testing iOS, but we plan to make it available to everyone soon. We are sorry it is taking so long, but we want this to be right for you. https://t.co/xc68yWkOim Spaces (@TwitterSpaces) August 26, 2021
Twitter stated previously that it would take a 3% cut from creators' earnings from Ticketed Spaces. The feature is currently only available for iOS. This means that Twitter will have to pay a 30% in-app fee. A creator will see 67% of every ticket sale. Twitter will increase its 3% commission to 20% if a creator's lifetime earnings, including Super Follows and Ticketed Spaces, exceeds $50,000.
Twitter's ticketed spaces would be a distinct feature from its live audio competitors. While Instagram and Clubhouse allow listeners to tip speakers or award badges during live audio spaces, the apps do not enable advance ticket sales.
