NFTs, the dubious digital ownership certificates that can be used to purchase art, media or any other item, are the latest news. This story is about a 12-year old boy who has made a small fortune selling pixelated drawings to thousands of people.

CNBC's Benyamin Ahmad said that he was fascinated by NFTs and blockchain tech. He also mentioned how the time he spent playing Minecraft and chatting to other NFT creators inspired his desire to create a set. Shame on us for thinking that NFT was dead. Ahmed now has nearly $400,000 worth of Ethereum, after his NFT collection sold overnight.

Weird Whales

Ahmed became a millionaire almost immediately after acquiring a collection 3,350 NFTs he called Weird Whales. Each NFT is a pixelated cartoon of a whale, and not much else.

However, buyers have not been discouraged by this ethereality. CNBC reports that all the Weird Whales were sold in less than nine hours. Ahmed spent $300 to complete the project and earned 80 ether from those initial sales. This amount is approximately $250,000 at the time of this article's publication. Ahmed has also collected 30 additional royalties, totaling approximately $94,000 since July's initial sale. This was after his buyers decided to sell their whales.

CNBC estimates that Ahmed has over $400,000 in Ethereum by the end of this month. Ahmed denies that he plans to cash out.

Ahmed said that he plans to keep all his ether and not convert it into fiat money. This could be an early sign that in the future, not everyone will need a bank account. Instead, they can have an ether address, and a wallet.
