Tesla is building an AI humanoid robot called Optimus, says Elon Musk

Tesla Tesla released an image of the Optimus robotic arm.
Tesla will produce robots that can respond to voice commands and eliminate repetitive tasks.

The robot, Optimus, is 173 cm tall and weighs 57 kgs. The robot's body will be powered via 40 electromechanical actuators, and its face will have a screen display.

Optimus can carry cargo up to 20 kgs. Tesla CEO Elon Musk says that a prototype of the vehicle will be available next year.

Musk spoke at the AI Day event of Tesla, which was designed to attract engineers and researchers to the company. He stated that many of the technologies in Tesla's self-driving vehicles can be used to create humanoid robots.

He said that Tesla is the world's largest robotics company. Our cars are semi-sentient robots on wheels. It makes sense to combine that with a humanoid body. They were also very good at batteries, actuators, and sensors.

Musk stated that the machine would be limited to walking speeds of 8 km/h and will be weak enough to be overcome by most people if necessary. Musk said that you never know what the future holds. He had earlier suggested that artificial general intelligence hypothetical AIs capable of performing any task that a human can complete was the greatest threat facing humanity.

Although the robot is still being developed, automation will make physical labor a viable option in the future. This will have profound economic implications and will require universal basic income to be a government policy. To give an idea of what the robot will look like, a human dancer was dressed in a suit.

Tesla also announced a custom AI-optimized computer chip, D1, that it will use to build a supercomputer called Dojo. This machine will process huge amounts of sensor and camera data from Tesla cars, and train the neural networks that underpin Tesla's self-driving technology. These updates and improvements can then be sent to cars all over the globe via the internet.
