New magnetic resonance imaging technology can show where epigenetic changes in the brain have occurred. This technique requires special diets to image chemical labels that are added to DNA. Epigenetic MRI or eMRI, as the team calls it, has been only tested on piglets, but should be able to work in humans, too.

King Li writes that we expect eMRI will be easily translated to humans, allowing for many new investigations into epigenetic bases of brain function, behavior and disease.
