By targeting the gene associated with endometriosis, mice can treat symptoms resembling those of endometriosis.

Endometriosis is a condition in which tissue from the uterus spreads into other areas, such as the bladder and ovaries. It can affect up to 10% of women and cause severe pelvic pain and infertility.

Many of the available options, which include surgery and injectable hormonal therapy, don't work and can have unpleasant side effects.

Thomas Tapmeier, Monash University, helps to better understand the condition.
